Ratheeshan is a great artist and artisan well known for his amazingly beautiful and elegant wooden-sculpturings. Lovers of art all over have approved and appreciated his skill and talents that he has shown in his wooden-engravings. Though his fame and reputation in the field of sculpturing reached in its zenith, he still yarns to become a reputed musician, for he is a born singer too.
Sculptors of ancient times were able to create soul capturing idols of gods and goddesses and like that this talented youth too had made many idols in various temples. And it can be truly said that he is a master in such crafts. His eye-catching creations, Muchilot Bhagavathi, Puthiya Bhagavathi Veeran, Pottan, Lord Krishna are all some of his greatest works. People from far and near are fascinated to buy the engravings of various deities created by this artist to worship them in their prayer-rooms; for he gives perfection to the idols in such a holistic and divine way. Devotees worship such idols perfected by him in places like Puthiyatheruvu Punchayil Bhairavadi Panchamoorthi Sthan and Kutyattoor Mangaden Chalil Pottan Daivasthan. Further he is a specialist in decorating the doors with beautiful engravings of gods and goddesses like Ganesh, Saraswathi, Mahalekshmi and flowers like Lotus and Rose. Such an enriched artist of wood craft is he, that holds a high reputation among sculptors and his chisels magically works on wood to convert them to beautiful pieces of art.
As said earlier his talents as a musician too are bloomed and flourished to its sublime. In music, Chelora Rajan Bhagavathar was his Guru and under him he studied it to the best and conducted his first musical concert at Muneeswaran Kovil at Kannur. There after he conducted many a concerts at various places and he has also been honoured by presenting to him a brocade for his performances at Kannur Mownibavaji madom. This learned musician has also got many a chances to sing with the famous singers of Kannur, like Pakkam Praveenkumar, Arun Raj, Prasanth and Roja in various concerts. He is also a reputed artist in Mugarshang by which instrumentís performance he had stunned the audience in many a stages. Further his Theyyam portraits too had popularised him. Thus the young artistís multiphased talents and performances made him notable and prominent not only in the fields of sculpturing and music but also in the world of art as a whole.
For all his achievements and uplifts in life, his obligations and owings, he says, goes to his forefathers, who were great savants in Astrology, Vasthushasthra, Wooden-engraving and to his Gurus whose blessings he got in abundance and above all the good lucks and wishes showered upon him by the goddess of Varam Sri Vishwakarma devi temple, who is his numen.
Ratheeshan who is so been noted, is born in a family of artistical taste and talents on 30th April 1973. His father Sri. Narayanan Udayavarman was an artisan of great accomplishment and was a scholar of Vasthushasthra. In recognition of his rare and diversified skills on wooden engravings and the wonders shown in wood sculpturing at the North-Malabarís famous temple, Parassinikadavu Sree Muthappan, he has truly been honoured with Bangles and Brocades by the well-known dynasty Chirackal Kovilakom and gifted the name of Udaya Varman as a symbol of appreciation. His mother Devaki was the daughter of Kadampur Valiyapurayil Kesavan Melachari, who too was proficient in Astrology, Vasthushathra and Wood sculpturing. All these inculcated, inborn abilities of art and craftsmanship in him which further ripened to produce wonderful creations. Ratheeshan fondly remembers that his father Narayan Udayavarman Achari, who has done the sculptors of Veerar Sri Muthappan Temple at Mumbai, has inspired him a lot and encouraged him immensely to learn the art of engraving which actually turned his lifecourse to great achievements.
Though he is now settled in Karnataka state, doing his sculpturing and engravings at Mangalapuram base, his early days were spent in his native place, Kerala. His schoolings were at Varam U.P. School and Chelora High School and completed his college studies at Kannur College of Commerce. Sujatha, the daughter of late T.V. Ampu (Kunjimangalam moosari kowal family) and Narayani Ampu is Retheeshanís life-partner. The wedding was on 30th April 2009.
